Does double-clicking the Grentchies really work to free them? I've found them stuck several times but couldn't find a way to set them free.
Also, am I imagining things, or didn't all "young childs" give presents last year? It sure seems like presents spawned faster/more at a time last year too.
Saw someone holding a present "hostage" this morning in American district 2... what great holiday spirit..
Possible solutions:
1. Fix grentchies so they don't get stuck.
2. Make presents explode if held over a certain length of time (ex: 60 or 90 seconds).
3. Make a new present spawn when one is picked up instead of when it's given to a child.
4. Allow more than one present to spawn at a time.
5. All of the above.
C'mon ANet!

Seems like the whole world has developed a "GIMMIE IT IT'S MINE" attitude.
Maybe parents should bring back spankings for selfish little children
A Mature Adults Only District would be great, oh not for us of course, but when all the 13 yo jerks go there to pretend to be adults it would free up the regular districts of little kids

However when you sound out their guild name perhaps it puts things a bit more in perspective.

Well, <guild name removed> is now topping themselves. Someone showed up in Dist 12 and demanded the grench release or the presents would be held. Here is a quote and I can screenie if needed:
"Yep, we're the present cops. You don't like playing by the rules don't play at all" (punctuation added for ease of reading)
Then after listening to round about arguments how they were sick of 'you people' who stay in a district with stuck Grench someone went ahead and stuck the grench. At which point our little self appointed 'cop' (read gestapo) says 'i see you people want to continue to be dishonest and trap the grench' as he's holding a present. (screens available) So, dist 12, instead of getting drops and sharing is being held hostage by the terror actions of <guild name removed>.
Grench are a pathing issue with AI, most likely. If ANET felt strongly enough about the problem I'm sure they'd call in a programmer, write a few lines and 'bam', small update, everyone is happy. This guild is a path-etic issue with their so called 'cops' mentality. The debate about grench being stuck or not-stuck is just that, debate. This group of buttrockets has gone and taken out a form of vigilante justice and adopted a policy of griefing districts on their own. I only hope ANET does read this to avoid future issues at other festivals.
Fortunate that <name withheld> decided we only rated a 10 minute time-out. But let that be a lesson to us! Er, wait, I wasn't even involved in the grench sticking incident! So have I been griefed out of my online time because of <guild name withheld>.
On the brighter side, they've now spawned a new dist 12 slogan..."Don't be a DK!"

I had great fun earlier today spoiling the fun of a guild group who were trying to control the presents in ID3.
When a few more people than they were comfortable with arrived in the district, they started holding until people left.
So I waited until they slipped up, grabbed a present, and freed the Grentches.
From that point on, one of them would constantly try to get the Grentches stuck, and I would constantly free them.
They eventually left the district completely, although they periodically sent scouts back to see if I was still there.
The insults I got chucked my way were hilarious; so much so that I had more fun antagonising them by freeing Grentches than actually collecting presents.
To be honest I didn't care about the presents, I just wanted to stop their stranglehold on the district.
And it worked
So join me in the "Free the Grentches" movement

I tried double clicking on some stuck Grentches last night, but it didn't work. Other than doing that, I have no idea how to unstick them. Gave up and farmed grawl some more.

To free them, you need to run towards the lighthouse with a prezzie. It probably means you won't get the prezzie, but that's not why you're freeing them, is it?

Snatch up a present and run up towards the lighthouse, when you get in range of them they will follow you. Turn around and let them chase you, it will unstick them.

And for those of you who feel that sticking the grentchies and reaping the rewards is ok...

Most people aren't sticking the grenchies. Some are. I'm not leaving a district just because the grenchies are stuck or get stuck. I happen to like the district I have been in because people tended to be pretty nice and shared drop spots, etc, and after three days there you tend to get to 'know' people and shoot the breeze with them.
The bug is well known and I'm certain ANET has heard about it by now. We're just stuck with whatever we get until they fix it or Wintersday ends.

I remember that! It was pretty funny when I was in the district, and the guy was trying to rationalize himself. Don't get me wrong I'm not for glitching the Grenches, in fact the presents flow faster with them out. I may lose one or two here, and there, but it makes it more exciting, and faster. If you think about it mathematically it comes out to be pretty much even with or without the Grenches being held.
Grenches out = faster spawns (presents blowing up)/ reduced payout (blowing up)
Grenches stuck = slower spawns (people have to run it in everytime)/ more payout (everytime)
My question is who is to say you can't turn in presents because ONE guy decided to exploit the Grench AI. I certainly don't think ANET left that decision to certain guilds, and I don't think there solution would be to lock-down an entire district from turning in presents. Sure I can change districts, but I've already befriended everyone in the district, and we have all worked out spot shares. What if I'm unlucky enough to pick another locked down district?
I'm not the guy glitching anything so why can't I turn in presents? I have done nothing wrong all I did was show up and turn in presents.
Bottom line is:
Grenches glitched or not I'm turning in presents >

Exploiting a bug is exploiting a bug reguarless if you get them stuck or just take advantage of them being stuck.
Play by the rules, its not that hard to unstick them.

I've had no trouble grabbing presents and turning them in. Sometimes I'll hear one drop while I'm afk then alt tab and casualy look for it then pick it up for the kid.
